Hailstorm Blackout Hits Local Bakery
During a late-May hailstorm in 2022, marble-sized ice pelted rooftops across Sherwood Park, snapping power lines and plunging the neighborhood into darkness just before dinner rush. At Sweet Rise Bakery on Sherwood Drive, ovens cooled, freezers warmed, and the scent of rising dough turned sour with risk. With perishables spoiling and weekend orders piling up, owner Lena Carter faced losing thousands in product—and customer trust—if power didn’t return fast.
We rolled up within two hours with a 45kW mobile generator, ran temporary lines through the alley, and had Sweet Rise’s coolers humming by nightfall. Our crew stayed onsite to monitor voltage stability through the weekend while Xcel Energy repaired the grid. By Monday, Lena was baking again with zero spoilage and a line out the door from neighbors grateful she stayed open.
They kept my freezers running so I didn’t lose a single cake order—that’s peace of mind.
